Everyone likes a good upset. You root for the little guy, David, not Goliath. On February 22, 1980 at the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, David and Goliath met. On this monumental day, the United States hockey team defeated a seemingly indomitable Soviet team. The “Miracle on Ice” was born after this astonishing win by amateur and collegiate players. An entire nation was left asking itself, “do you believe in miracles?” Coached by Herb Brooks, the team then proceeded to bring home the gold medal.
