New ADA sign regulations went in to effect in March 2012. There are still many interior signs that do not adhere to the current standards. When looking for an interior signage system, be sure it is from an up-to-date, ADA-compliant wholesaler.
Our most frequently seen errors when replacing interior signage:
- Positioning errors: You now have a bit more flexibility ranging from 48 inches to 60 inches from the floor to the base of the characters.
- Font: Bold font is no longer ADA compliant.
- Letter height: The font used must be kept at 5/8-inch min to 2 inch max.
- Tactile height: Braille has to be domed and Grade ll.
- Tactile margin: There must be a 3/8-inch border around all tactile and Braille elements.
